Every school playground is different, and we think the equipment in it should be too. At Knotty But Nice we design and handcraft bespoke outdoor play and learning spaces that fit your school, your space and your budget, working closely with you from first idea to final installation. Whether you know exactly what you want or just have a tricky corner you'd love to bring to life, we're happy to sit down, talk it through and build something made for your children.
Because everything is made in house by our own father and son team, there's no catalogue middleman and no inflated mainstream pricing. That means genuinely handcrafted, FSC timber equipment, installed by the people who built it, at a price that usually comes in well below the big suppliers. It's the sort of quality PTAs love to see their fundraising go towards.

Unlike off-the-shelf alternatives, The Climbing Wedge is fully installed by our own team, built from 100% FSC treated timber, and crucially designed to grow. Its modular construction means your school can start with the core system and expand or adapt it over time, creating a bespoke climbing experience that's uniquely yours.

A sandpit might sound simple, but get it right and it becomes one of the most used, most loved and most educationally valuable features in any primary school playground. Designed and handcrafted by Knotty But Nice, our School Sandpit is a premium, bespoke installation for children of all primary ages, built to inspire imaginative play, support early development and stand up to the demands of busy school life.
Unlike generic solutions, every Knotty But Nice sandpit is custom-sized to fit your space perfectly, In this example from St Barnabas Primary School in Worcester we 'supersized the sandpit' to fit the most amount of children. The price includes full installation and over 11 tonnes of graded and UK compliant play sand.

Outdoor learning should be creative, hands on and genuinely built to withstand a British playground, and that's exactly what our Outdoor Easels deliver. Designed and handcrafted by Knotty But Nice, our easels turn any wall, fence line or open corner of the playground into a space for children to draw, paint, write and create together, encouraging imagination, collaboration and fine motor skills all year round.
Unlike flimsy indoor easels dragged outside for the afternoon, ours are fully installed by our own team and built from 100% FSC treated timber to shrug off the weather season after season. Best of all, you choose the surface to suit your school: a classic blackboard for chalks, a clear acrylic panel for painting and whiteboard pens, or a netted easel for knotting and weaving. Mix and match across a run of easels and you create a bespoke creative station that's uniquely yours.

Outdoor play should spark curiosity, mess and a bit of magic, and that's exactly what our Potion Table delivers. Designed and handcrafted by Knotty But Nice, the Potion Table invites children to mix, pour, stir and experiment to their heart's content, turning muddy water, petals and playground finds into wild concoctions while building sensory play, teamwork and early science skills along the way.
Built with care and from 100% FSC treated timber to stand up to daily use and every kind of weather. It comes complete with a working level fitted with four stainless steel mixing bowls, plus a lower storage shelf that keeps utensils, bowls and buckets tidy and close to hand. Built to last, easy to love, and ready for whatever your budding potion makers can dream up.
