Designed and handcrafted by Knotty But Nice, The Climbing Wedge is a premium freestanding climbing system for children aged 3 and above, engineered to inspire physical development, build confidence and bring serious fun to any primary school playground or outdoor learning space.
Unlike off-the-shelf alternatives, The Climbing Wedge is fully installed by our own team, built from 100% FSC-approved treated timber, and crucially designed to grow. Its modular construction means your school can start with the core system and expand or adapt it over time, creating a bespoke climbing experience that's uniquely yours.

Four Distinct Climbing Experiences The Climbing Wedge comes complete with four individually crafted wall panels, each offering a different climbing challenge to keep children engaged and developing new skills:
Rope Climbing Wall - Develops grip strength, coordination and determination as children haul themselves upward using knotted rope handholds
Rock Climbing Wall - Features varied climbing holds to build balance, spatial awareness and upper body strength, just like a real climbing wall
Two Block Climbing Walls - Provide an accessible entry point for younger or less confident children, encouraging participation and building the foundations for more challenging climbs
The Summit Bench Every great climb deserves a reward. At the apex of the wedge sits a 250mm wide bench top, a full-width seating platform running the entire depth of the structure and accessible from both sides. A place to catch a breath, celebrate the climb, and enjoy a moment at the top.
Artificial Grass Base The slatted timber base of each wall panel is finished with a permanently fixed artificial grass surface, creating a comfortable, safe and visually inviting surface underfoot, a natural carpet beneath the climbing walls that adds to the feel of an outdoor adventure.
FSC-Approved Treated Timber Throughout Every component is crafted from fully certified, sustainably sourced timber, pressure treated for outdoor durability. The Climbing Wedge is built to withstand the demands of daily school use, in all weathers, year after year.

Keeping your Climbing Wedge in great shape
With a little routine care, your Climbing Wedge will serve your school for many years to come. We recommend the following annual maintenance checks:
Timber surfaces - Inspect for wear and treat with a clear wood preservative once a year. We recommend Ronseal Clear Wood Treatment to maintain protection and appearance.
Fixings - Check all bolts and fixings for tightness annually, as natural timber movement through seasonal changes can cause minor loosening over time.
Climbing features - Inspect all holds, rungs and rope elements for integrity. Any worn, loose or damaged components should be replaced promptly. Replacement panels and parts are available directly from us.
